When you sit out on the piazza on a late afternoon and feel the breeze from the Harbor gently waft in you will be reminded why you chose to live here. This area of town is as distinct as they come in Charleston.  A history dating back to the early 1700’s and the good fortune that it was spared by Sherman’s men  factor heavily into South of Broad’s position as one of the most storied and exclusive neighborhoods in the southern half of the United States.  Rows of palatial antebellum mansions line East Bay and Meeting Streets but you’ll find homes of all shapes and sizes on the quaint wandering streets.

Perhaps the quietest neighborhood of Downtown, residents here enjoy the tranquility of the suburbs with the proximity of urban living, though this district is very popular with meandering tourists and horse drawn carriages.  In the past 10 years it has become a favorite of part-time second-home owners, and you can still find native Charlestonians and families if you look in the right places.  Residents enjoy walks among the live oaks at the six acre park next to the battery called White Point Gardens.

South of Broad is defined as the lower section of the peninsula located to the south of Broad Street, a main thoroughfare bisecting the oldest part of the city. It is an important divider for those seeking Charleston real estate on the peninsula. South of Broad will engulf you  it’s tree-lined streets and historic antebellum mansions and is where you will go to visit upon graceful arches and lush gardens. Homes here range from around $850,000 to $23,000,000.

Recently names one of the “Top 10 Most Beautiful Neighborhoods in America” by BBC Travel, South of Broad is well located to enjoy the best Charleston has to offer.
